Are you aware that you add an additional layer of security when logging into your online banking? At times when logging into online banking, you are sent a two-factor authentication code to your phone either through a call or a text message. This code, which should never be provided to anyone, helps to verify who you are. However, there is a verification method that can be turned on which does not rely on text messages. Rather it relies on an authenticator app that is downloaded to your mobile device. This code typically expires after a short period of time and does not rely on text messaging, which can be especially problematic when you get a new phone number.

To use an authenticator app with your online banking, you must log in to the LFCU’s online banking. If you use the mobile banking app, first select the gear icon to go to settings after logging in. From there, (for both desktop and mobile versions) simply click “My Settings”. Then scroll down to Security Options. Click the edit button and then click on the slider under “By Authenticator” to turn on authenticator use. You will then need to enter your online banking password and click save. This will cause a QR code and a text code to be displayed so that you may link Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator with your online banking. After setting up the authenticator app of your choice, this will now be an option for verification available when prompted for two-factor authentication.
